Alexander Robert Chisolm papers, 1861-1912.

Papers, 1861-1912. They contain correspondence, including 15 letters to and from General Pierre G.T. Beauregard; two versions of Chisolm's autobiography, one apparently a draft for publication, with illustrations, although there is no indication that it was ever published; notes, addresses, memoirs, and similar papers relating to Beauregard, the surrender of General Joseph E. Johnston, the battles of Shiloh, Bull Run, and Fort Sumter, the defense of Charleston, and other events during the war; two scrapbooks, and some loose newspaper clippings; and a cipher key used by Beauregard while he was in command of the Confederate Army. The key is a fan-like apparatus, using the keywords "Our Navy our Pride." Chisolm's notes include his account of witnessing the first shot fired at Fort Sumter.
